Cadets took the field Friday Night after a disappointing loss to start the season in week #1. After battling extreme heat all week, players were able to find a way to gut out a dominating performance. Kickoff was pushed back to 7:30 PM with temperatures hitting high 80' at game time. Cascade would win the toss and elect to defer to the 2nd half. The Cascade redeemed themselves this week vs an athletic and very big Beech Grove offense. On the opening kickoff SR Kicker Chase Schnarr would make a touchdown saving tackle to start the game. The defense would then go to work and after two busted snaps, would force a three and out on the opening drive. The Cadets offense would trot out to the field, line up for their first play of the game, with Beech Grove not set, the Cadets would take advantage and SO Toby Savini would find paydirt on a 72 yard touchdown run down the Hornet sideline to give the Cadets an ealy 7-0 lead in the ball game. SR Damien Appleby picked off Hornet quarterback to give the Cadets defense their first takeaway of the season. Cascade would go on to take a 14-0 lead after another SO Toby Savini 9 yard touchdown run early on in the second quarter. Hornets would strike on the ensuing possession after driving 65 yards on 11 plays to cut the lead to 14-7 with 5 minutes to go in the half. Cadets would threaten on the next possession and drive all of the way to the Hornets 15 yard line, but SR Chase Schnarr would hook the field goal attempt as time expired in the 1st half. Cascade would receive the 2nd half kickoff after maintaining the lead. Cascade would take 11 players methodically moving the ball down the field on the backs of the five offensive linemen paving the way. SO Toby Savini would find the end zone for his 3rd touchdown of the night to cap off a 5 minute touchdown drive to extend the lead 21-7. On the next possession, the Cadets defense forced a three and out to what looked to be the nail in the coffin. But on the next possession, SR Damien Appleby would get the handoff and hit a crease for a 9 yard gain, but would be stripped on his way to ground to give the Hornets life. Beech grove would march down the field on a 13 play drive and punch the ball into the end zone on a 3rd and one rush attempt cutting the lead to 21-13. Cadets would rattle off 14 more points coming on a 28 yard touchdown run by SR Damien Appleby to extend the lead 28-13. SR Damein Appleby would recover a fumble on the next possession that would lead to SO Brady Trebley hitting SO Dayton Mink for a 17 yard touchdown pass giving the Cadets a 35-13. SO Toby Savini would cap it off with an interception in the end zone as the Hornets were threatening. Cascade defense would lead the way for the night forcing 3 turnovers (2 Interceptions and 1 Fumble Recovery) and allowing less than 250 yards in the game. Cascade would use the ground game and rack up 365 yards rushing to get the job done on offense. Cadets get their first victory of the season heading into two home games sitting at 1-1. Hornets drop to 0-2 for the second straight season. Cadets look to complete the sweep of Beech Grove tomorrow night at home. Cascade will be back at home the next two weeks facing 4A Edgewood Mustangs for Cascade Youth Football Night and the following week vs Cloverdale Clovers for Homecoming.
