The weather looks to be just right for some Friday Night Lights. Cadets will wear their all black uniforms. Cascade comes into the game 1-1 coming off a 35-13 defeat of Beech Grove on the road. Edgewood comes into week three at 1-1, defeating Mitchell 41-27, but fell to Washington 28-0 last week. Both teams rely heavily on the ground game. Edgewood leads the series 26-13. Cascade last beat Edgewood in 2016 41-13. This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2018. CADET NOTES Cascade offense is coming off a 408 yard output with 365 coming on the ground attack. Offensively, Cascade will have to clean up pre-snap penalties and turnovers to be successful Friday Night. Three Cadet running backs rushed for 50+ yards in the game vs Beech Grove with SO Toby Savini having career high rushing day with 144 yards and career high in touchdowns with 3. Defensively, the Cadets are coming off their best output over the season forcing three takeaways (1 fumble/2 Interceptions) and holding the Hornets to 13 total points. SO Brady Trebley gets the nod under center for the Cadets. Trebley completes 60% of his passes for 103 yards through two weeks on just ten attempts averaging 17.0 yards per completion. He looks to settle in and continue to be the leader of the no-huddle wing-t attack for the second straight year. FR Rhyder Williams will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. Rhyder continues to show consistent improvement at the JV completing 5-6 passes for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. Multiple running backs will look to carry the rock in SR Damien Appleby, SO Toby Savini, SO Dayton Mink and JR Tyler Hege. SR Damien Appleby and SO Toby Savini added to their touchdown totals on the year both finding the end zone on the ground. The backfield is averaging 302 yards per game with 6 touchdowns and 6.8 yards per rush. JR Daemen Mason and SO JT Roshong will look to add in their hands to the pass attack this year. Mason was able to haul in one catch for 12 yards vs Triton Central and Roshong hauled in one catch for 26 yards vs Beech Grove in week 2. SR Brayden Cartmel and FR Trent Austin will look to be both physical blockers and pass catchers at the tight end position. Both played a vital role in the success of the rush attack. Brayden Cartmel was able to haul in 2 catches for 27 yards week one. JR Duncan White, JR Josiah Murrain, JR Owen Hargis, SR Jacob Potts and JR Bryce Hofing will all look to anchor the front 5 in the heavy ground attack offense. Last week, the front line was able to pave the way with 365 yards on the ground with the running backs averaging 6.8 yards per rush. This group has led the way to a total of 706 yards of offense through the first two games, 188 more yards than through the first two games in 2022. Josiah Murrain leads the defensive line up front with 5 tackles, .5 TFL and two quarterback hurries. Look for JR Owen Hargis, JR Bryce Hofing, SO Brandon White to back-up the front 4 for the Cadets. They will need to plug holes and use their speed against an offensive line that averages 260+ lbs across the board. SR Brayden Cartmel, SR Jacob Potts, SR Damien Appleby, FR Lucas Farmer will look to anchor the 2nd level defense. SR Jacob Potts leads the team in tackles with 16 and SR Brayden Cartmel is right behind him with a close 15. SR Damien Appleby had a standout game on defense finishing with 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery. After giving up 397 yards through the air attack in week one JR Daemen Mason, SO JT Roshong, SO Marcus Hobson and SO Toby Savini bounced back in the secondary forcing two interceptions and locked down the pass game giving up 103 yards through the air. SO Toby Savini came up with his first interception of the season last week late in the fourth quarter as Beech Grove was threatening to score. Cadet defense is giving up 360 yards per game, 247.5 through the air and 112.5 through the ground. End: Murrain - Nose: Setty - Tackle: Minardo - End: D. White - Sam: Appleby - Mike: Potts - Will: Cartmel - Rover: Farmer - Cornerback: Mason - Safety: Savini - Cornerback: Hobson SR Chase Schnarr handles the kicking game for the Cadets. These three combined were a machine last week hitting 5-5 on PATs. SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS Edgewood is led by Scott Fischer who is in his 1st year at the helm and currently holds a 1-1 record. The Mustangs will look to bounce back after their week two loss to Washington Hatchets 28-0. Edgewood beat 2A Mitchell in week one 41-17.
