The weather looks to be just right for some Friday Night Lights. Cascade will wear white tops with black bottom uniforms on the road. Both Cascade and Lutheran come into the game with high powered offenses and strong defenses. Cascade brings a 3 game win streak into this week with wins over Beech Grove, Edgewood and Cloverdale. Lutheran brings in a 4 game win streak with wins over Beech Grove, Ritter, Triton Central and Lapel. Cascade relies heavily on their No-Huddle Wing-T offense, while Lutheran. breaks out the spread attack using both the pass and run game. Cascade has never beat Lutheran and currently sits 0-4 in the all time series. Cascade gave a strong effort in 2022 and trailed the Saints 12-16 at halftime, but went scoreless in the second half and lost 50-12 due to 5 turnovers in the game. Cascade managed to put up 326 yards of offense, but gave up 357 yards through the air attack to an experienced Lutheran quarterback. Both offenses are averaging 40+ points per game, while the Cadet defense gives up 14 points and Saints give up 8 points per game. Cascade has been outscored by the Lutheran Saints in a four year total 207-47. Cadets are giving up 51.8 points and scoring 11.8 points in those four games. Cadets will look to get to 4-1 for the 1st time since 2013 season. CADET NOTES The Cascade offense is coming off three straight 400+ yard offensive games. Offensively, Cascade will look to continue their success on offense Friday Night versus the Saints stout 5-3-3 stack defense who only gives up 26 rushing yards per game. Cascade has three 300 yard rushers on the season and looks to build on their already 1,453 yards on the ground and 21 touchdowns. Defensively, the Cadets are coming off a dominating effort holding the Cloverdale offense to -9 total yards, forcing three takeaways (1 fumble/2 Interceptions), and holding to a shutout. Cascade has forced five turnovers in the last two games. SO Brady Trebley leads the offense that averages 413 yards per game. Trebley is completing 58% of his passes for 194 yards and 5 touchdowns through four weeks on just 19 attempts averaging 17.6 yards/completion. He looks to settle in and continue to be the leader of the no-huddle wing-t attack for the second straight year. Multiple running backs will look to carry the rock. SO Toby Savini leads the backfield with 448 yards, averaging 13.2 yards per rush and 7 touchdowns. SR Damien Appleby added 329 yards, averaging 10.3 yards/carry and 7 touchdowns. SO Dayton Mink was able to find the end zone last week for three touchdowns and brought 279 yards along with him through three games. Look for SR Caiden Clements and JR Tyler Hege to get in on the mix. The running back group is averaging 363.3 yards/game with 21 touchdowns and 8.7 yards/rush on the ground. Wide receivers will continue to add in their hands to the pass attack this year. So JT Roshong leads this group with 2 catches for 50 yards and caught a 24 yard touchdown pass two weeks ago in the first quarter versus Edgewood. Tight ends will look to be both physical blockers and pass catchers at the tight end position. Both played a vital role in the success of the rush attack, but also in the play action pass. FR Trent Austin has hauled 2 catches for 46 yards and 2 touchdowns averaging 23 yards a reception. Four Juniors continue to anchor the offensive line for Cascade. The offensive line averages in weight a combined 200lbs. Last week, the front line was able to pave the way with 485 yards versus Cloverdale. This group has led the way to a total of 1,656 total yards and 26 touchdowns through four games. The defensive line will look to slow down Junior precision passer Jackson Willis this week. JR Duncan White leads the defensive line up front with 9 tackles, 3.5 TFL and one sack. Look for JR Owen Hargis, JR Bryce Hofing, SO Brandon White, SO Sam Starika to back-up the front 4 for the Cadets. They will need to plug holes and use their speed to contain the explosive Saints offense which averages over 400 yards per game. This group is playing stout up front only giving up 2.3 yards per carry and 50.3 rushing yards per game. The linebacking group will look to anchor the 2nd level defense. SR Jacob Potts leads the team in tackles with 23 and SR Brayden Cartmel is right behind him with a close 21. SR Damien Appleby and FR Lucas Farmer had standout performances last week with Appleby getting his 2nd interception of the year. Farmer finished with a game high 6 tackles and 2 TFLs. The defensive backs will be up for the challenge this week defending one of the best small school pass attacks in the state. Over the last two weeks, this group has given up 101 yards through the air vs Edgewood and Cloverdale. SO Marcus Hobson came up with his first interception of the season last week. Cadet defense is giving up 192 yards per game, 140 through the air and 52 on the ground. SCOUTING THE SAINTS Saints are led by Dave Pasch who is in his 16th year at the helm currently holds a 4-0 record and 152-53 overall. The Saints have won 34 straight games dating back to the 2021 season. In week three, the Saints defeated Lapel 38-7. Lapel was able to keep the Saints in check during the first half 10-7, but in the second half Lutheran exploded for 28 points and shut out the Lapel offense. Saints rely heavily on Junior Quarterback Jackson Willis to lead the offense. The Junior Quarterback has 825 yards through the air. Running back Brayden Hall, Lutheran’s only run threat, has rushed for 725 yards on 82 carries. Defensively, the Saints 5-3-3 stack defense is stout. Their defensive line averages 275lbs with between their three down linemen. The defense has given up 32 points through four games. Saints are 2 platooned for the most part, only having 3 two way starters for the 1A school. LOOKING AHEAD The Cadets will continue their road stretch next week when they travel to Roachdale to take on 2A North Putnam Cougars and will finish in Spencer versus 3A Owen Valley Patriots.
