Game #8 - Cascade @ Danville Community 9/14/23

The Lady Cadets soccer team (5-2, 3-1 ICC) traveled to Danville to play a local rival in the Danville Lady Warriors as they looked to right the ship from a disappointing loss to Greencastle. The Lady Warriors are classified as a 2A team when the IHSAA Sectionals start and are members of the current Sagamore conference. Despite the local connection, there isn’t much of a rivalry between these two schools. Despite the recent success of the Cascade Girls soccer program, Danville has dominated the outcome of many of these games and the general trend of the soccer programs certainly favors the Lady Warriors as well. The last three games between the schools have been very competitive but have all been won by the Warriors. The Cadets won the opening coin toss and started the game with the ball and unfortunately this was the only thing that the Lady Cadets won in the evening. After a quick turnover just :12 seconds into the game, the Lady Warriors were off and attacking the Cadets goal. By quickly dribbling around the end of the Cascade defense, Danville placed a well positioned pass right back in front of the goal that yielded a good shot toward the goal. The Cadets goalie, Zoey Wyneken, made a great stop on that early shot but tragically the ball bounced right back toward the attacking Danville players and was poked into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead with only :35 seconds off the game clock. Danville would score a second goal in another four more minutes and then score their third goal of the first 15:00 of the game. Despite being down 3-0, the Cadets did a good job moving the ball occasionally and created a few good scoring chances that just missed someone to be in the right position to score an easy goal. As the full game worn down, the Lady Cadets would give up two more goals but still play as hard as they could. Danville’s skilled passing slowly wore down the Cascade emotional energy and the Lady Cadets were given plenty of opportunities to learn about offensive position and the importance of possession in the sport of soccer. The game ended in a 5-0 domination by the Danville Lady Warriors. The 5-0 victory for Danville pushes the Lady Warriors’ season record up to 7-2-2 and the loss pushes the Cadets’ season record to 5-3. The Lady Cadets move ahead and begin preparing for two more out of conference games (Southmont and Northview) before they finish the season with ICC rivals Cardinal Ritter and Speedway. The game against Southmont next week will be on Monday, September 18th and the Northview Lady Knights come to Cascade for Senior Night celebrations on Wednesday, September 20th. The game with Southmont will start at 5:00 p.m. Game Summary Danville 3 - 2 5 Cascade 0 - 0 0
