Cadets Drop Road Game to 1A #1 Lutheran Saints

By Connor Simmons | Sep 18, 2023 10:07 AM

Cadets traveled Friday Night to take on defending back to back 1A State Champion Indianapolis Lutheran for their 2023 Homecoming. Lutheran is now riding a 35 game winning streak and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Cascade won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. That was the last time the Cadets would be close to the Saints on the scoreboard. It was a game of size and speed Friday Night and the Cadets couldn’t match either of them. The Wing-T offense struggled to get anything going on the ground. Up front the Saints stout front three defensive linemen averaged 6 '4'' in height and 295lbs in weight, while Cascade’s 5’10” in height and 202lbs in weight. The size difference took a toll on the Cadets on both sides of the football all night, who were mismatched on every position up front. Lutheran held the Cascade offense to 168 yards of total offense, 3-9 on third down, 0-3 on fourth down conversions and forced one turnover in the game. Defensively, JR Jackson Willis, QB for the Saints, would throw for 6 touchdowns and 271 yards on the night to lead the Saints to 42 1st half points behind his two 6’6” tackles and strout interior offensive linemen. Cascade would struggle to pressure upfront until the Saints put their 2nd string players in the game. Cascade would be shut out in the first half, but find the little success they did have in the second half. Cadets offense would drive 68 yards and eat up much of the 3rd quarter capping off with SR Caiden Clements finding the end zone to avoid the shut out as Lutheran has many of their 2nd string players in the game. After FR Lucas Farmer would recover an onside kick, SO Brady Trebley would connect with JR Tyler Hege on a 31 yard pass and SO Dayton Mink would punch it in from 7 yards out. Cascade would outscore Lutheran 13-7 in the second half. Cascade falls to 3-2 on the season and 0-5 All Time versus the Lutheran Saints being outscored 256-60 in those five games. Cascade will travel to North Putnam Friday Night to take on the 1-4 Cougars who are coming off a massive blowout win vs Cloverdale.
