Cascade Cadets look to get back on track this week at North Putnam High School. North Putnam chose Cascade as their 2023 homecoming game. Can the Cadets find their identity on the 2023 season? Cascade has lost to #1 1A Lutheran and #3 2A Triton Central, but beaten 4A Beech Grove, 4A Edgewood and 1A Cloverdale. This will be the 57th meeting between the two schools with North Putnam leading the series 33-23, but Cascade enters the meeting on a four game win streak. North Putnams last win in the series came back in 2016 when they beat the Cadets 13-20. Cascade will wear white tops with black bottom uniforms on the road. Cascade is coming off a blowout loss to private school power Lutheran Saints 13-49. Cougars are coming off a 48-0 blowout victory of the 1A Clovers. Cascade relies heavily on their No-Huddle Wing-T offense, while North Putnam. breaks out the spread attack using a balanced pass and run game. In the 2022, Cascade beat North Putnam 40-21, but Cougars led for most of the 1st half before Cascade was able to pull away. The last meeting at North Putnam came in 2021 with the Cadets beating the Cougars in a low scoring defensive slug fest 9-6. CADET NOTES The Cascade offense is a struggling performance versus Lutheran. Offensively, Cascade will look to their identity Friday Night versus the Cougars defense. Cascade has two 300 yard rushers on the season and looks to build on their already 1,561 yards on the ground and 23 touchdowns. Defensively, the Cadets were not able to keep Lutheran’s pass attack out of the end zone giving up 5 touchdowns and 255 yards through the air. SO Brady Trebley leads the offense that averages 364 yards per game. Trebley is completing 54% of his passes for 254 yards and 5 touchdowns through five weeks on just 26 attempts averaging 18.1 yards/completion. He looks to settle in and continue to be the leader of the no-huddle wing-t attack for the second straight year. FR Rhyder Williams will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. Rhyder continues to show consistent improvement at the JV completing 12-16 passes for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns. Multiple running backs will look to carry the rock. SO Toby Savini leads the backfield with 464 yards, averaging 11.3 yards per rush and 7 touchdowns. SR Damien Appleby added 339 yards, averaging 8.7 yards/carry and 7 touchdowns. SO Dayton Mink was one of two players that scored for the Cadets versus Lutheran bringing his touchdown total to five on the season. Look for SR Caiden Clements and JR Tyler Hege to get in on the mix. The running back group is averaging 312.3 yards/game with 23 touchdowns and 7.6 yards/rush on the ground. Wide receivers will continue to add in their hands to the pass attack this year. So JT Roshong leads this group with 2 catches for 50 yards and caught a 24 yard touchdown pass three weeks ago in the first quarter versus Edgewood. Tight ends will look to be both physical blockers and pass catchers at the tight end position. Both played a vital role in the success of the rush attack, but also in the play action pass. FR Trent Austin has hauled 2 catches for 46 yards and 2 touchdowns averaging 23 yards a reception. Four Juniors continue to anchor the offensive line for Cascade. The offensive line averages in weight a combined 200lbs. Last week, the front line was able to pave the way with 485 yards versus Cloverdale. This group has led the way to a total of 1,656 total yards and 26 touchdowns through four games. The defensive line will look to slow down Sophomore dual threat Christian Kramer this week. JR Duncan White leads the defensive line up front with 9 tackles, 3.5 TFL and one sack. They will need to plug holes and use their speed to contain the explosive Cougars offense which averages over 325 yards per game. This group is playing stout up front only giving up 2.3 yards per carry and 55.3 rushing yards per game. The linebacking group will look to anchor the 2nd level defense. SR Jacob Potts leads the team in tackles with 26 and FR Lucas Farmer right behind him with 24. The defensive backs will be up for the challenge this week, a quarterback who threw for 270 in their 2022 match-up. SO Marcus Hobson came up with his first interception of the season versus Cloverdale. Cadet defense is giving up 219 yards per game, 166 through the air and 53 on the ground. SCOUTING THE COUGARS Cougars are led by Scott Moore who is in his 2nd year at the helm currently holds a 1-4 record and 5-10 overall. The Cougars opened up the season 0-4, but got back on track last week with a 48-0 win over Cloverdale. Cougars rely heavily on Sophomore Quarterback Christian Kramer to lead the offense. The Junior Quarterback has 933 yards through the air and another 543 on the ground. Cougars are led on defense by Caiden Hawkins who has a team high 47 tackles. LOOKING AHEAD The Cadets will hit the final game of their away stretch in Spencer, IN to take on 3A Owen Valley Patriots.
