With little rest and time to recover from a game on Saturday, Cascade Lady Cadets (0-1, 0-1 Monon) traveled to Western Boone for their second game of the 2026 season. The Lady Cadets were scheduled to start the season with five of their first six games on the road and four of these away games were Monon Conference games. A strong showing in the first couple of games could significantly help Cascade in the conference standings as well as build up confidence and game experience for the rest of the season. The Lady Stars defeated Cascade 2-0 last season. With a regularly scheduled girls soccer game between Cascade and Western Boone going back almost 15 years, both teams were very comfortable with an anticipated fast and physical style of play in Tuesday night’s game. Cascade’s loose and flowing offensive/defensive patterns had been generally successful in keeping the scripted and technically polished patterns of Western Boone in check for most of the recent games between the two schools. Playing on Western Boone’s grass field did help slow some of the attacking patterns that Lady Star’s preferred to use. This extra second or two of defensive support for the Lady Cadets helped them significantly in the first half as the Lady Star’s dominated possession. The Lady Cadets moved the ball into the Lady Star’s defensive half of the field only two or three times in the first 20:00 of the first half. The offensive control that Western Boone was able to use in the opening minutes of the game yielded many promising attacks and finally an opening goal. The 1-0 opening lead encouraged the Lady Stars to try and get another goal quickly. The Stars got that second goal only a couple of minutes later when the Cascade goalie had the ball slip through her hands and right into the path of the Western Boone player. That 2-0 Western Boone lead held for the rest of the first half as the Cadets started to regain their confidence and put a new effort into defensive play. The second half was a much more open half as the Lady Cadets really started to press the ball up the field. Western Boone’s physicality was not matched by the Cadets in the first half. As the Cadets started to move the ball up the field in the second half, Western Boone’s physical play became their only counter punch to the Cadets. Repeated fouls were called against the Lady Stars as Cascade moved the ball up and across the field. Cascade was awarded a penalty kick about halfway through the second half and Autumn Chattin put the ball into the counter of the net for a game changing goal. The Cadets were now only down one goal and started to play with new effort and energy. The renewed effort and energy did impact the Cadets defense as the entire team started to get more physical as well. This physicality did play against the Cadets when the Lady Stars were able to score on a free kick just outside of the penalty box. This Western Boone goal bumped the lead back up to a two goal lead at 3-1 and the game ended at that score. The 3-1 loss for the Cadets (0-2, 0-2) starts their season off with a second conference loss. The Lady Stars victory improves their season record to 2-2 (1-1 Monon). There is a chance that Cascade will see Western Boone again due to the recent IHSAA Sectional realignment which brought Cascade, Southmont, Crawfordsville, and Western Boone into Sectional 27. The Lady Cadets next game will be a 5:30 p.m. start on Thursday, August 27th at Monrovia. Western Boone will travel to Tri-West on August 27th for their next game.
