With little rest and time to recover from Tuesday’s physical game against Western Boone, the Lady Cadets (0-2, 0-2 Monon) traveled to Monrovia to play the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) for their third road game of the 2026 season. The Lady Cadets and Lady Bulldogs have an extensive athletic history. The two schools have spent decades together as the members of the same athletic conference (West Central Conference, Western Indiana Conference, and Indiana Crossroads Conference) and the similar school populations have resulted in the schools being paired up frequently in the same IHSAA tournament over the past decades. Recently, the two schools have split to new conferences (Monrovia - Legends Conference and Cascade - Monon Conference) but the rivalry between the two schools has still remained intense. Comparing the recent successes of the girls soccer teams of each school, Monrovia has shown a bit more recent success. The Lady Bulldogs have won four 1A sectionals in a row (2022-2025) while the Lady Cadets won two 1A sectionals back in 2021 and 2022. Recent success for Monrovia has helped them dominate the rivalry between the two teams. Monrovia has won the last four head to head matchups by a combined score of 30-3. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Cascade 10-1 last season. The Lady Bulldogs' energy at the start of the game looked like a team that had won four consecutive sectional championships and was looking for a fifth. Monrovia dominated the attacking play and kept the ball deep in the Lady Cadets end of the field throughout the whole first half. Even when the Cadets did manage to build out from their end, Monrovia blasted the ball quickly back into another tough defensive position for the Cadets. After the first goal for the Bulldogs was scored at 35:06, the Lady Cadets started to recover some offensive and defensive energy to keep Monrovia within reach. But Monrovia’s second goal panicked Lady Cadets a bit and they did their best to keep the game as close as possible. The Cadet goalkeeper made some of her best saves after the second goal was scored. The halftime score showed Monrovia up 2-0 at halftime. The second half was a better effort for the Lady Cadets but the team still struggled to find positive offensive patterns. As demonstrated throughout the first half, if the Cadets didn’t take care of their touches and passes Monrovia was quite capable of turning those mistakes into clean, powerful shots from anywhere in the attacking half. The Cadets did get some fortunate outcomes from situations where they were in real trouble (shots bounced off the post and crossbar and a wide open shot in front of the goal was completely whiffed) but the law of averages caught up with the Cadets as the half progressed. Monrovia scored two more goals about halfway through the second half to press their lead up to 4-0 and the game coasted to completion. The Lady Cadets cleared their bench with substitutes at about 15:00 minutes remaining and got some playing time for athletes who hadn’t gotten in the first couple of games. The 4-0 loss for the Cadets (0-3, 0-2) extends their losing streak at the start of their season to three games in a row and a consecutive losing streak to 16 games. The Bulldogs’ victory improves their season record to 2-1. The Lady Cadets will get some needed practice time and then host their first game at home when the Edgewood Lady Mustangs travel to Cascade on September 3rd. This home game will start after the boys game has completed around 7:30 p.m. Monrovia will play again on August 31st when they host the Lady Tiger Cubs from Greencastle.
