The Lady Cadets (0-9, 0-3 Monon) hosted the Lady Hot Dogs (0-9, 0-4 Monon) of Frankfort High School on Saturday morning as part of a Monon conference boy/girl doubleheader. Coming into the game, both teams were looking for their first wins of the season and looked to get out of the bottom of the conference standings. The Lady Hot Dogs had scored 3 goals on the season and the Lady Cadets had ever fewer goals, 1. Last season, the teams were in similar situations of trying to find wins late in the season and the Lady Cadets lost to Frankfort 3-1. With another rash of injuries striking the Lady Cadets team coming into the game with Frankfort, the Cadets would have to do their best with two substitutes available. The Cadets took advantage of Frankfort's very aggressive offensive style of play and moved the ball just enough in the first half to get an early goal and control of the game. The second goal of the season for the Cadets came when Clara Pell struck a rebounded ball just out of reach of the Frankfort goalie. The Cadets had been moving the ball consistently into the Hot Dog’s defensive area for most of the first half the goal from Pell came after a strong play up the right side allowed for a close shot that rebounded off the Frankfort defense. This early goal energized both teams and Frankfort was able to get two good shots on the Cascade goal in the last couple minutes of the first half. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Cascade. Frankfort used the halftime to make two small adjustments in their play to get a game tying score just three minutes into the second half. The 1-1 tie changed the game but the Cadets stuck to their pattern of play and attacked the Frankfort goal for the sidelines repeatedly. The second goal for the Cadets came from a penalty kick that was awarded when the Cadets were fouled just in front of the Frankfort goal. Olivia Whitaker took the penalty kick and struck the ball just under the reach of the goalie, scoring her first goal of the season and giving the Lady Cadets the lead again. With the lead back in their hands, the Cadets kept the offensive pressure on the Lady Hot Dogs. Another good offensive possession lead to a second penalty kick awarded to the Lady Cadets and this time Clara Pell scored her second goal of the game and gave the Cadets a two goal lead. The game still possessed some excitement while the Cadets held their 3-1 lead in the second half but the team pulled together enough to stifle much of the Frankfort offense in the last 15:00 minutes of the game. The Cadets held on for a much needed 3-1 win. The 3-1 victory for the Cadets (1-9, 1-3) is their first win of the season and the team’s first win in the Monon conference. The win also ends the team’s 22 game losing streak going back to last season. The Lady Hot Dog’s loss drops their season record to (0-10, 0-5). The next scheduled game for the Lady Cadets will be another Monon conference home game with North Montgomery coming to town on Monday, September 21st. The next game for the Lady Hot Dogs will Monday, September 21st when they host Tri-Central Trojans. The start time for the Lady Cadets’ game will be 6:00 p.m. and the Senior Night activities will take place before the game starts.
