The Lady Cadets (1-9, 1-4 Monon) ended their four game homestand by hosting the Lady Chargers from North Montgomery High School (7-4, 2-3 Monon) and taking time to celebrate this year’s nine Senior players. With the Cadets getting their first win of the season back on Saturday morning, the Lady Cadets looked to continue their improved play over the past five games while dealing with recent injuries. North Montgomery and Cascade are assigned to the same 2A Sectional 27 that will be hosted by the Cadets in about two weeks. The two teams faced each other for the first time last season and the Lady Chargers easily defeated the Lady Cadets 6-0. After the Senior Night activities for the nine Cascade athletes, the game started with North Montgomery dominating possession of the ball and getting numerous corner kicks as they pressed the ball frequently into the Cadets defending area. The Cadets did a good job preventing the early shots from making into the back of the net but North Montgomery wouldn’t be stopped forever. The Lady Chargers did score two goals around the 20:00 mark of the first half and those goals helped give North Montgomery some offensive security as the Cadets kept trying to break out of the Lady Chargers midfield pressure. The Cadets did move the ball up the field with some success throughout the first half but the North Montgomery defense threw off any true offensive attacks. North Montgomery scored a third goal in the half before the Lady Cadets would finally got a bouncing ball into the back of the net. Freshman Myah Roell struck the deflected pass from Zayda Hofing just firm enough to roll into the net and score a goal for the Cadets. This was Myah’s first goal of the season and Zayda’s first assist of the season as well. The first half ended with the score 3-1 and the Cadets optimistic that they could score another goal if they played a little better and harder on the offensive end. As the second half played on, it became evident that the Cadets were going to struggle to get another good scoring opportunity against the Lady Chargers. With a couple of goals, frequent subbing, and a clear dominance on the offensive end, North Montgomery seemed to relax their efforts in the first half. Once the Cadets started to develop some shots in the first half and scored a goal did the focus of the Lady Chargers change. In the second half, the Lady Chargers subbed less and didn’t remove the starting goalie in favor of a less experienced player. The only goal scored for each team in the second half was scored by North Montgomery about half way through the half and the game would end for an easy 4-1 victory for the Lady Chargers The 3-1 loss for the Cadets drops their record to 1-10 (1-5 Monon) on the season. The Lady Chargers improved their record to 8-4 (3-3 Monon) and both teams have one game remaining in conference play. The next scheduled game for the Lady Cadets will be an away game at Northview High School on Wednesday, September 23rd. North Montgomery will return home and take a couple of days of practice before they host the Greenwood Christian Lady Cougars on Thursday, September 24th. The start time for the Lady Cadets’ game at Northview will be 5:30 p.m. and be part of a boy/girl doubleheader with the Knights.
