The Lady Cadets (1-10, 1-4 Monon) returned to the road last night and traveled over to Brazil to face the Northview Lady Knights. The Cadets and Knights rivalry extends back nearly 20+ years from when the schools were part of the Western Indiana Conference (WIC) and then recently when the two schools were placed in the same 2A Sectional competition. The Lady Knights (2-10) are coming off a much needed home win last night over South Vermillion. The Lady Cadets last played North Montgomery on Monday night and continued their steady improvement. When the two teams faced each other last season, the Lady Knights easily defeated the Lady Cadets 6-0. Both teams started out really strong in the first half but much of the play was very unorganized. The Cadets and Knights made numerous unforced errors at all positions that prevented any good offensive buildup from happening much of the half. Off the Northview mistakes, the Cadets did create some good goal scoring opportunities that just never finished with a goal. Northview did a little better job than the Cadets in controlling the ball and working it into good scoring chances but their best shots were easily stopped by the Cadet goalkeepers. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie and some optimism for both teams that with better effort the game could turn in their favor. A steady breeze from the north had helped the Lady Cadets move the ball in the first half and the Lady Knights were looking to use the advantage of being downwind for the second half. The ball moved out of the Cadet’s defensive end very rarely in the second half and this constant pressure slowly wore down the Cadets emotionally and physically. Despite a good defensive effort by the Cadets at the start of the second half, the Knights finally broke open the scoring just before the midway point of the second half. From that moment on the Cadets crumbled and yielded four more goals to the Knights in the last 20:00. The game ended with the clock running under the IHSAA mercy rules and the final score displayed 5-0 in favor of the Northview Knights. The 5-0 loss for the Cadets drops their record to 1-11 on the season. The Lady Knights improved their record to 3-10 and now have a two game winning streak. Both teams are now looking ahead at the IHSAA Tournament Selection Show that will begin on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The next scheduled game for the Lady Knights will be Saturday, September 26th down at Pike Central. The Cadets next game will be their last home game of the regular season when they host Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs.
