The Lady Cadets soccer travelled to Lebanon High School to play in their first tournament of the season. The Lebanon Invitational included the host school Lebanon, Cascade, West Vigo, and Jeffersonville. There was also a boys tournament that was played in between the girls games that included Lebanon, Faith Christian, Benton Central, and West Vigo. In the first girls games at 12:00, the Lady Tigers and Lady Cadets played on Field 1 while the Lady Vikings and Lady Red Devils played on Field 2. The winners and losers would play each other at the 4:30 p.m. games. The Lady Cadets should have come into Saturday’s game with Lebanon with positive thoughts after a solid 6-2 victory over North Putnam. But those expected positive thoughts never materialized and the Lady Cadets were dominated by the Lady Tigers. For the game, the Lady Cadets were outshot by Lebanon 41-5 and many of those shots were the result of repeated mistakes committed by the Lady Cadets deep in their own defensive third. The Cadets goalie and defense did a great job for the first 20 minutes of the game as the Cadets were only down 1-0 at the first half water break despite having 10 shots taken at them from a close distance. But after the water break, the Lady Tigers dominated the ball and quickly scored two more goals to take a 3-0 lead at the half. Exhausted from the sun and demoralized from their first half performance, the Lady Cadets used the halftime break to try and strengthen their resolve. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers scored three more goals in the second half as they patiently worked the ball around even more than the first half and just wore out the Lady Cadets defense even more. Despite a couple of breakaway chances, the Lady Cadets could only get the ball out of their defensive third a few times for the whole game and rarely threatened to score a goal. The 6-0 defeat to Lebanon Lady Tigers (2-1) was their first defeat of the season (1-1-1). The Lady Cadets will take a short break and then return to the Lebanon soccer fields and play the Lady Vikings of West Vigo High School at around 4:30 p.m. The Lady Vikings (1-2-1) lost their opening game to Jeffersonville (1-0) in PKs 2-2 (2-3).
