Girls Soccer Game #6 Indian Creek v. Cascade, 9/3/24

The Lady Cadets returned to the soccer pitch last evening by hosting the Lady Braves as part of a boy/girl doubleheader with Indian Creek. The Lady Braves came into the game with an 0-4 record while the Lady Cadets looked to get back on the winning side of games. Over the past couple of years, the Indian Creek and Cascade hadn’t played a girls soccer match between the two schools. Cascade and Indian Creek are assigned to separate IHSAA 2A soccer sectionals and were once members together in the Western Indiana Athletic Conference. With beautiful weather for the evening, the Lady Cadets hoped to keep building on their improved play of the past couple of games. The Lady Cadets got off to a good start in the first half with a goal from Anna Burns at around 8:00 minutes into the game. Despite the ease at which Anna made her eighth goal of the season look, the Lady Braves played a very physical and aggressive game against Cascade and made the Cadets play a chaotic style of play compared to previous games. Indian Creek’s disruptive style allowed some of the Lady Cadets to roam freely across the field without being marked defensive. Regan Franklin took advantage of space given near the Indian Creek goal without much defensive pressure and she was able to score five goals with the help of her teammates pressing the ball quickly down the field. All but one of Regan’s goals came from an assist from her teammates. Assists from Alexa Rodriguez, Ava Allen, and Anna Burns helped Regan punch the ball easily into the back of the net. The back to back goals scored by Regan Franklin shook up the Indian Creek defense a bit more and this opened up new scoring chances for Ava Allen and Ruthie Trump before the end of the first half. Ava was able to get her fourth goal of the season after recovering a loose ball toward the top of the penalty box and struck an excellent ball into the top corner of the goal. Ruthie Trump was able to score her first goal of the season when she dribbled toward the top of the penalty box and struck a well positioned shot just over the top of the Indian Creek goalie’s reach. By the end of the well played first half, the Lady Cadets held a 6-0 lead over Indian Creek. The Lady Cadets continued their hard work at the start of the second half to create more scoring opportunities and put the game away as soon as possible. By passing the ball around the field with better pace and touch, the Cadets did get many scoring chances in the second half but they couldn’t find the back of the net. It wasn’t until Regan Franklin was able to score two more goals off of great passes from her teammates that the scoring on the evening was finished for the Lady Cadets. As the clock wound down and the sun set on the cool evening, the Cadets and Lady Braves moved players on and off the field to finish out the game. The 8-1 victory over Indian Creek moves the Cadets record up to 3-2-1. The Lady Braves remain winless on the season with an 0-5 record. The Lady Cadets will return to the soccer field on Thursday, September 5th when the Brown County Lady Eagles travel to Cascade for a 6:00 start.
