Cadets traveled to Marian University to take on Cardinal Ritter High School for the 6th meeting vs the two schools. The Cadets took on Cardinal Ritter Raiders last Friday Night with a chance to win 5 regular season games for the 1st time since 2013 and only the 2nd time since 2006. Cadets received the opening kickoff of the game. On the 2nd play from scrimmage, JR Damien Appleby broke off a 51 yard run, but the Cadet offense stalled out 4 plays later being stopped on 4th down. On the ensuing defensive possession, Cadets defense was able to get a three and out stop thanks to a big tackle for a loss by SR Liam Farmer setting the Raiders up with a 3rd and 17. Ritter would be forced to punt and would boom a 61 yard punt flipping the field for the Raiders defense. Cadets would face a 4th and 3 from their own 28 yard line, but would be denied when going for it. This stop and the Raiders next possession seemed to be a wake up call for the Cascade Cadets. Ritter would find the end zone 3 plays later on a 1 yard touchdown run and take an early 6-0 lead. Cadets would be forced to another three and out on their 3rd possession of the game and the struggle continued for the offense. Ritter took over on offense and on the 1st play from scrimmage FR JR Roshong was able to pick off a pass and change the momentum for the Cadets late in the 1st quarter. Cadets would drive 43 yards and six of the seven going to SR running back Liam Farmer found the end zone from 1 yard out to take a 7-6 lead as the 1st quarter ended. Cascade’s defense would get another 3 and out on the night and force a Ritter punt. Cascade’s offense would drive 78 yards, thanks to a 65 yard rush to start out by Farmer setting the Cadets in scoring position. Three plays later Farmer would find the end zone for his 2nd touchdown on the night and 22nd on the season giving the Cadets a 14-6 lead. The defense for the Cadets was flying around all night. Cadets on the ensuing possession forced another 3 and out thanks to SO Josiah Murrain forcing a tackle for a loss and setting the Raiders up with a 3rd and 6 that was stuffed by JR Damien Appleby. Another punt for the Raiders found the Cadets with the ball and all momentum. Cadets drove down the field in 4 plays compliments of a 22 yard pass to Farmer from Trebley and Farmer would finish it with a 1 yard touchdown run for his 3rd of the night giving Cascade a 20-6 lead. Ritter continued to struggle offensively to move the chains. Cadets defense forced their 5th punt of the night in the first half. Cadets offense would drive down 67 yards on 8 plays capped off by a 7 yard touchdown pass to JR Logan Gibbs from FR Brady Trebley to give the Cadets a 27-6 lead in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, the Raiders offense would threaten in the red zone, but FR Marcus Hobson came up with a huge interception to deny the Raiders a touchdown and to get back in the game. Two plays later and just trying to run out the clock, SR Liam Farmer would bust through the middle of the Raiders defense for a 76 yard touchdown run to extend the lead 34-6. With 9 seconds left in the half, Ritter would take the next kickoff 85 yards down the sideline for a touchdown and momentum swing in the game. They would convert the two-point conversion and bring the score to 34-14 at the half. Cadets would kickoff to open the 3rd quarter and elected to play aggressively kicking an onside kick. JR Gavin Weakley would recover and bring the offense back out to the field. It would only take the offense 4 plays to score as SR Liam Farmer found the end zone extending the lead 41-14. On the ensuing possession, Ritter would hit a long pass down the middle of the field, but the Cadets defense would stand tall and stop the Raiders on 4th and 3 from the 21 yard line. Cascade would bring the offense back out looking to build on the 4 touchdown lead that they had. JR Damien Appleby would get two big carries to start the drive, but the offense would stall out at mid field and be stopped on 4th and 3. Cardinal Ritter would take over with good field possession and look to get back on the scoreboard. But the Ritter offense would be denied after FR Marcus Hobson would get his 2nd interception of the night. Cascade’s offense would start with a big 43 yard play to start the drive when FR Brady Trebley found SR Liam Farmer in the flat. Three plays later, Farmer would find the end zone for his 6th touchdown of the night and 26th of the season, extending the lead 48-14. Cascade defense would step back on the field to continue the work they were doing. Ritter would get a drive down to mid field, but FR Marcus Hobson would come up with a big pass break-up down the middle of the field, almost having his 3rd interception of the night. Cadets would take over to begin the fourth quarter. On the next possession, Cadets would fumble the exchange from center to quarterback on 3rd down and the Raiders took over in the red zone. Raiders would find the end zone 4 plays later bringing the deficit 48-21 in favor of the Cadets. On the ensuing Cadets offensive possession, Cascade would be forced to a three and out giving the ball back to the Raiders with 9 minutes left. Ritter would drive down and find the end zone for the 2nd time in the 4th quarter, shrinking the lead again 48-28. On the Cadets next offensive possession, the starting offense was subbed back into the game. Cascade would find themselves with a 4th and 7 from mid field, instead of electing to punt, the offense stayed aggressive. FR Brady Trebley found JR Logan Gibbs over the middle for a 45 yard gain and dagger to the Ritter team. Gibbs would bring the ball down to the Raiders 7 yard line and from there, SR Liam Farmer would cap off the drive extending the lead 55-28 for his 7th touchdown of the night and 27th on the season. The Raiders offense would drive down the field, but a tipped ball batted in the air by JR Logan Gibbs, SR Walker Van Ness would come up with an acrobatic catch to seal the victory for the Cadets. Cascade would win its 5th game of the regular season, a feature that hasn’t happened since 2013 bringing their record to 5-4, 3-4 in conference play. Cadets finished tied for 4th place in the Indiana Crossroads Conference which is their highest final standing spot in the 4 years since joining. Cascade will now look to reset and begin their new season as they begin their IHSAA Sectional 37 run.
