Friday Night Preview; West Central Trojans vs Cascade Cadets

Cadets are back in action this week after improving to 3-0 for the first time since 1993. Cascade, who is looking to get to 4-0, will host the West Central Trojans at Cascade Memorial Sports Park Friday Night. During the 1993 season under Head Coach Darrin Fisher, Cascade rattled off 4 straight wins to open the season, but fell in week five. There have been three teams in the 58 years prior to 2024 of Cascade football that have started the season 4-0, those teams were 1993 (Darrin Fisher), 1982 (Steve McLean) and 1972 (Gary Satterfield). West Central 33.53, 242nd overall, 27th in 1A. Statewide Polls Cascade Cadets are not ranked in Class 3A. West Central Trojans are not ranked in Class 1A. RECAP OF WEEK #3 Cascade traveled to Edgewood and took down the Mustangs 42-0. Cascade’s offense was held scoreless in the first quarter. JR Brady Trebley threw his first interception since 2022 vs Sullivan in the only drive in the first quarter Friday Night. Cascade would rattle off 28 points in the 2nd quarter with a 86 yard two minute drive to extend the lead before halftime 28-0 with a 25 yard passing touchdown from Brady Trebley to Marcus Hobson. Cascade would get the running clock started early in the 3rd with a Dayton Mink touchdown run. Dayton Mink would lead the rushing attack with 80 yards and 3 touchdowns. Defensively, Cascade held the Mustangs to 83 yards total and JR Baynx Stirling would get the group's 1st defensive score of the year. West Central hosted the Tri-County Cavaliers for week three. West Central led the 24-0 before Tri-County was able to put points on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter. HEAD COACHES Connor Simmons, 21-25 in his 5th season at Cascade, 24-31 overall in 6 seasons. Marc Hall, 36-66 in his 11th season at West Central, 52-84 overall in 14 seasons. 2024 vs Common Opponents None ALL-TIME RECORD This will be the 1st time West Central and Cascade will meet on the Gridiron. Both teams are separated by 106 miles. West Central’s enrollment sits around 280 kids while Cascade sits at 540 kids. SETTING THE SCENE Friday Night Cascade will be back on their home turf Friday Night. This will be the schools first time playing each other in school history. Cascade will wear all black Friday Night. What’s at stake for both teams? West Central looks to extend their two game winning streak and Cascade looks to get to 4-0 for the first time in 30 years. Both teams have experience coming back, but only one will walk away with a win. Cascade will employ their heavy run wing-t offense, while West Central will bring a gun wing-t offensive look. CADET NOTES Cascade will enter Friday Night with a 3-0 record at home for the first time since 1993. Cadets knocked off 3A Indian Creek for their first win in week 1 since 2018, 2A North Montgomery in week 2 and 3A Edgewood in week three. Cascade uses a No-Huddle Wing-T attack on offense and a 3-4 on defense. Cascade looks to move to 4-0 for the first time in 30 years. The last 4-0 start was back in 1993 under Head Coach Darrin Fisher, Cadets would go on to lose in week 5 that year. The Cadets will need to play great defense and run the football in order to have success Friday Night against a gun wing-t offensive attack from the Trojan. JR Brady Trebley is under center for the Cadets. Trebley was 9-19 for 89 yards and 1 touchdown in last week's win over Edgewood. Through three games, Trebley is just 24 pass attempts away from beating their total amount from last season. On the season, Brady is 27-44 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Trebley threw his first interception since the 2022 Sullivan game last week vs Edgewood. FR Luke Austin and FR Adrian Parsons will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. Multiple running backs will look to carry the rock for the 2024 season. JR Dayton Mink leads the team with 42 carries for 308 and 5 touchdowns on the season, Mink moved into 7th all time in school history in rushing touchdowns with 16, which is a tie with classmate Toby Savini. SR Daemen Mason and SO Lucas Farmer have combined for 38 carries, 403 yards and 3 touchdowns. The running back group is averaging 336 yards on the ground. Wide receivers will continue to add in their hands to the pass attack this year. JR JT Roshong leads this group with 13 catches for 93 yards and 1 touchdown. JR Marcus Hobson has brought in 2 catches for 26 yards and 1 touchdown that came last week vs Edgewood right before halftime. Tight ends will look to be both physical blockers and pass catchers at the tight end position. Both played a vital role in the success of the rush attack last week setting the edge for the downhill rushing attack. JR Braxton Lewis will serve as the number one tight end. JR Royce Bright and SO Trent Austin will serve as his back-up. This group has playing a significant role in the production of the 419 yards of offense. Four Seniors will anchor the offensive line for Cascade. The offensive line averages in weight a combined 205lbs. SR Josiah Murrain, SR Bryce Hofing, SR Duncan White, and SR Owen Hargis will all look to be the aggressors upfront with the two full years of starting experience they bring to the table. Through three weeks, the No-Huddle Wing-T offense has 1,257 yards of offense. The offense is averaging 35 points per game. In week three, Cadet finished with 410 yards of offense with 321 coming on the ground behind the front six. The defensive line will look to set the tone up front. Sr Duncan White had a strong outing vs Edgewood coming up with two tackles for a loss. JR Brody Duncan and JR Dominic Appleby will serve as the defensive ends for the week. SO Dillon Setty, SO Wyatt Minardo and SR Bryce Hofing will serve as back-ups for this group. The linebacking group settled in last week after a tough week one. JR Braxton Lewis, JR Leland Walker, JR Dayton Mink and FR TJ Turner will get the start at the linebacker core. FR TJ Turner led the team with 7 total tackles and 1 tackle for a loss. JR Braxton Lewis finished with 3 tackles. Lewis and Turner are tied for 1st in tackles on the team with 17 each . SO Wyatt Minardo, SR Brady Thornburg and JR Baynx Stirling will serve as the back-up for this group. The defensive backs will look to anchor the 3rd level of the defense in week three. This group brings back the most experience on the team. JR JT Roshong is tied with two others for the most tackles on the team at free safety. SO Lucas Farmer, JR Marcus Hobson and SR Daemen Mason will anchor the other three defensive back spots. JR Brady Trebley and JR Toby Savini will serve as back-ups for the evening. This group played a strong first three games with giving up 111 passing yards a game. SR Max Stucky continues to handle the kicking duties for the Cadets. Stucky is currently 13-14 on the season for PATs with his only miss coming on a block from his very first PAT attempt. SCOUTING THE TROJANS West Central is led by 11th year Head Coach Marc Hall. The Trojans are coming off a week three win over Tri-County 26-13. West Central will look to some key players to have success Friday Night as they travel to Cascade. JR RB Drea Villarreal is a strong two way player and will lead the Mustang offense from the backfield. FR Connor Hubner will lead the defensive unit. The Trojans currently have 8 players starting on offense and defense. IHSAA SECTIONAL Cadets are up in 3A for the first time in school history competing in Sectional #29. Guerin Catholic and Cascade all came away with week three victories in the sectional line-up with two teams currently sitting at 3-0.
