The recent Girls Soccer games between the Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs and the Cascade Lady Cadets have been a circled date on each team’s calendars. Many times in the past couple of seasons, the Cadets and Tiger Cubs played each other as ranked teams in the Top 20 1A rankings. The first three meetings were highly competitive games that ended in ties. The fourth game was for the IHSAA Sectional 41 Championship when the Lady Cadets upset the Lady Tiger Cubs 1-0 despite being outplayed and outshot for most of the game. Last season’s games between the two schools were both won by Greencastle as they plowed through to their first sectional title in 6 years. This season’s rivalry game had a less competitive edge due to the Cadets moving out of 1A Sectional 41 and up to 2A but the game was still highly anticipated. Greencastle came into the game with a 7-1 record and a #19 ranking in 1A polls. The Cadets entered with a 5-3-1 record and in the middle of four games in an eight day stretch. Being nearly ten games into the season, the Lady Cadets had a full understanding that control of the midfield was vital to their offensive rhythm. Unfortunately, this area of the pitch was possibly the strongest part of the Lady Tiger Cubs' team. The Lady Tiger Cubs dominated play for the whole game and limited any substantial offensive build up that the Lady Cadets could create. The final stats for the game showed a 2-1 advantage in minutes of possession and a gap of 12-2 in the shots on target. Despite the frustrations of the game for the Lady Cadets, there were some small bright spots for the team that will help them as the look to finish the season strong. Freshman Regan Franklin was able to score her 7th goal of the season as she collected a lobed pass from Anna Burns that was misplayed by the Greencastle defense. The assist for Anna was her 6th of the season. The 4-1 loss to Greencastle moves the Lady Cadets record to 5-4-1. The Lady Tiger Cubs season record improves to 8-1. The Lady Cadets now return immediately back to the soccer field and play a newly assigned Sectional rival, the Owen Valley Lady Patriots. The upcoming game with Owen Valley will take place on Monday, September 19th and start around 7:00 p.m. Game Summary Cascade 1 Greencastle 4 Goals/Assists: 17:25 2H Regan Franklin (7), A: Anna Burns (6)
