CASCADE SWIM AND DIVE Girls Season Preview The Cascade girls swim and dive team opens the 22-23 season this Thursday at Beech Grove. The team consists of 16 swimmers and 2 divers. The girls are returning 13 from last years conference championship team and adding 5 new talents to the roster. The Cadet diving program will be under the direction of first year coach Madison Trivett. The former Plainfield HS diver is looking to make a big splash with the cadets this season. 2022 will see the return of Junior diver Courtney Shostrand who missed most of last season due to a back injury. Courtney joins fellow junior London Moore who was the ICC diving champion last season. Both are looking to advance out of this years sectionals and punch a ticket to the state meet. The swimming side of the cadets team offers plenty of lineup options. Led by Seniors Gabby Angelidis, Amani Malik and Madison Goff, the seniors will lead a young cadet team with 12 of the 18 team members being sophomore's or freshmen. The youth of this team makes it exciting but also makes it a team prone to inconsistency To be successful the girls will need to be consistent in their performance and will need to take a last swim mentality. There can't be many off nights. If the girls can continue to approach practices and meets with that mentality the cadets will remain a highly competitive team. The cadets will be looking for big performances from it's sophomore class. Kirstyn Marcum, Hailey Dunn and Taylor Trusty have made big strides and will be an important aspect of the cadets success. Look for Isabelle Vieting, Katianne Bolinger and Shaelyn Skidmore to take on a more vital roll in relays and in their individual events while Hannah Smith and Alexa Rodriguez will be called on to gain the cadets valuable points in a variety of events this season. The cadets freshman class will be tested early as the cadets open the season against three big schools in Beech Grove, Mooresville, and Plainfield. Freshman Lilly Lanphier, Emma Phipps, Molly Goff and McKenna Potters each had successful middle school seasons last year and have already shown that they can handle the next level workouts and pace. If that translates to meet performance, this freshman class will help propel the cadets to several wins this season. This is a team that will be exciting to watch and that excitement begins Thursday.
