The Cascade girls swim and dive team opened the season with a solid win over Beech Grove. The Cadets won 9 of the 12 events in the 124 to 53 win. Senior Swimmer Madison Goff led the way with 2 individual event wins and 2 relay wins. The Cadet divers added 10 points for the Cadets with a 1-2 finish. Senior Gabby Angelidis had a solid night finishing 3rd in the 100 butterfly and 2nd in the 100 backstroke. The 100 free saw Isabelle Vieting out touch Emma Phipps by .04 of a second with Taylor Trusty just a second behind as the trio went 1-2-3 in the event. Katianne Bolinger put in a great swim dropping almost 8 seconds from her previous PR in the 100 butterfly finishing 2nd to Madison Goff. Hailey Dunn won the 100 backstroke and 50 free event with two great swims. Freshman Lilly Lanphier and McKenna Potters both had solid swims in the 500 event finishing 2nd and 3rd. Shaelyn Skidmore put in a solid 50 free and 100 breaststroke for the Cadets finishing 3rd in the 50 and 2nd in the breaststroke. The cadets had a good night according to Coach Phipps. “ It's good to get that first meet under our belts, now we can go back and build from the times we have from tonight.” The cadets have a few days to prepare for another “big” school as they travel to Mooresville on Tuesday for a girls meet. According to Coach Williams there is a lot of improvement that needs to happen in a short amount of time. “Our girls performed well enough to win but not well enough given our schedule over the next 3 weeks. Next up is a a very good Mooresville team on Tuesday that is well coached and has excellent swimmers and divers so we will need to bring a more focus but I am confident that the girls will be up for the challenge”.
