Friday Night Preview; 2A #10 North Putnam vs Cascade Cadets (Homecoming Edition)

Cascade football is back in action Friday Night at home vs rival North Putnam Cougars after making history against Sullivan. For the first time in school history, Cadets are 5-0 after a rout of the Golden Arrows. Friday Night Cadets welcome alumni back to the game as it will be their homecoming contest. Cascade will greet 5-0 North Putnam for a Friday Night showdown of two different styles of teams. The last four years these two teams have played each other, they have been extremely close contests that could have gone either way. Scott Moore is in his 3rd year, while Connor Simmons is in his 5th. Both teams have a heavy junior and senior class playing for them between the lines. North Putnam has wins against North Montgomery, Southmont, South Putnam, Crawfordsville and Cloverdale. Cascade has wins against Indian Creek, North Montgomery, Edgewood, West Central, and Sullivan. North Putnam Cougars are ranked #10 in 2A in the USA Today Coaches Poll & #11 in 2A in the AP Media Poll. RECAP OF WEEK #5 Cascade traveled to Sullivan last Friday Night and was firing on all cylinders in all three phases. Cadets completed their 4th straight game of 400+ yards and 4th straight game with over 300 yards on the ground. Defensively, Cadets pitched a shutout, with the lone touchdown coming on a bad snap on punt. Cascade would get the running clock started early in the 3rd with a Tyler Hege touchdown run. North Putnam hosted Cloverdale for their Friday Night contest and after 1 play on offense, the game was delayed and pushed back to Saturday. North Putnam jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Cloverdale hung with them in the first half. Clovers were able to score on two long touchdowns to only be down 17-14 at half. Cougars jumped out to a 30-14 lead to open the 4th, but the Clovers fought back to make it 30-20, after another North Putnam touchdown, Clovers drove down the field to cut the game 37-26. However, with 4 minutes remaining in the game, North Putnam was able to run the remaining portion of the clock out to complete their victory. Simmons, 23-25 in his 5th season at Cascade, 26-31 overall in 6 seasons. Scott Moore, 12-13 in his 3rd season at North Putnam. 2024 vs Common Opponents North Montgomery (NP: W 52-20 / C: 42-20) Greencastle (NP: Week 9 / C: Week 8) ALL-TIME RECORD This will be the 58th meeting between Cascade and North Putnam. Cascade has won the last four match-ups dating back to 2020. Cougars lead the series 33-24 with the last win coming in the sectional semifinal game in 2018. The Cougars won 15-6. The last four meetings have been close contests with the most recent one in 2023 having an explosive 48 point fourth quarter. Cascade took home the victory 49-39. SETTING THE SCENE Friday Night Cascade back at home against North Putnam Cougars for their Homecoming festivities. Cascade will wear all black Friday Night. What’s at stake for both teams? Both teams enter the contest 5-0 and both are ranked in one of their respective classes polls. One team will leave Friday Night with their first loss of the season and the other will continue their undefeated regular season. Cascade will employ their heavy run wing-t offense, while North Putnam will bring a no huddle spread offense. Buckle up, fill the stands, and show up and show out because your Cascade Cadets will look to continue their success in the 2024 season against rival North Putnam. 5-0 vs 5-0… a battle between the unbeatens. CADET NOTES Cascade will enter week six 5-0 for the first time in school history. Cadets are hitting their stretch of strong schools on the schedule with the second Friday Night being 5-0 North Putnam. Cascade uses a No-Huddle Wing-T attack on offense averaged 39 ppg and a 3-4 on defense only giving up 9 ppg. Cascade will have their hands full against a physical and confident Cougar team. The Cadets will need to play great defense and run the football in order to have success against the spread attack of the Cougars. Offense: Pass Yards: 90 Yds/Game Rush Yards: 334 Yds/Game First Downs: 101 Yards Per Play: 7.8 JR Brady Trebley is under center for the Cadets. Trebley was 2-5 for 45 yards, but saw all of his success on the ground with a career high 147 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. On the season, Brady is 36-59 for 412 yards and four touchdowns and adds 272 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground. FR Luke Austin and FR Adrian Parsons will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. Cadets have a plethora of running backs that can carry the rock for their offense on Friday Nights. JR Dayton Mink leads the team with 66 carries for 504 and 8 touchdowns on the season. SR Daemen Mason and SO Lucas Farmer have combined for 45 carries, 521 yards and 5 touchdowns. JR Toby Savini has averaged 10+ yards per carry since being back in the line-up. JR Lucas Farmer leads the group with 13.4 yards per rush. This group has combined for 1,672 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. Wide receivers will continue to add in their hands to the pass attack this year. JR Marcus Hobson leads the group averaging 17 yards per reception. Hobson hauled in 1 reception for 36 yards on a huge 3rd and 10 situation against Sullivan. JR JT Roshong also has 15 catches for 100+ yards and 1 touchdown. Tight ends will look to assert their dominance as an edge setter for the backfield. JR Braxton Lewis will serve as the number one tight end and continues to be a force in the blocking attack up front opening up the edge for the backs to run through. JR Royce Bright and SO Trent Austin will serve as his back-up. This group has played a significant role in the production of the 401 yards of offense against Sullivans front seven. Four Seniors will anchor the offensive line for Cascade. The offensive line averages in weight a combined 205lbs. SR Josiah Murrain, SR Bryce Hofing, SR Duncan White, and SR Owen Hargis will all look to be the aggressors upfront with the two full years of starting experience they bring to the table. Through five weeks, the No-Huddle Wing-T offense has 2,100 yards of offense. The offense is averaging 39 points per game. In week five, Cascade finished with 401 yards of offense making it their 4th straight game with 400+ yards. Most of the damage has come on the ground attack that averages 334 yards per game thanks to the 6 strong that sets the tone up front. Defense: Pass Yards Against: 66 Yds/Game Rush Yards Against: 43 Yds/Game First Downs: 29 Yards Per Play Against: 3.1 JR Brody Duncan and JR Dominic Appleby will look to continue their dominant performance up front through the first five weeks of the season. Though statistically it doesn't show their dominance, they are taking up the blocks from the OL to allow free linebackers to fit and fill. JR Brody Duncan leads the group with 19 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. SR Ducan White is second with 2.5 tackles for loss. SO Dillon Setty, SO Wyatt Minardo and SR Owen Hargis will serve as back-ups for this group. JR Braxton Lewis, JR Leland Walker, JR Dayton Mink and FR TJ Turner will get the start at the linebacker core. This group had little experience at the beginning of the season, but is playing strong football entering week 6. JR Braxton Lewis is tied for first on the team with 29 tackles. JR Leland Walker played really good football the last two weeks leading the team in tackles the last two games. O Wyatt Minardo, SR Brady Thornburg and JR Baynx Stirling will serve as the rotational players for this group. The defensive backs will have a tough test Friday Night with slowing down JR Christian Kramer and company’s passing attack that averages 276 yards through the air. SO Safety Lucas Farmer is tied for the team lead in tackles with 29 total. JR Marcus Hobson, SR Daemen Mason, and JR JT Roshong will look to lock down the air attack. Sr Daemen Mason currently leads the team with 5 pass breakups. JR Brady Trebley, JR Toby Savini, and SR Tyler Hege will serve as rotational players for the evening. The secondary is giving up 66 yards through the air. SR Max Stucky continues to handle the kicking duties for the Cadets. Stucky is currently 26-27 on the season for PATs which comes out to 96% accuracy. Stucky moves into 6th place all time in school history in PATs made in a season with 26 passing M. Bodeker 2013 (25) & N. Mourey 2015 (22). SCOUTING THE COUGARS North Putnam is led by 3rd year head coach Scott Moore. The Cougars are entering the game 5-0 for the first time since 2019. North Putnam will be led on offense by JR quarterback, Christian Kramer. Kramer is averaging 379 yards per game and 3 touchdowns per game. The JR has given Cascade struggles the previous two years playing the Cougars. JR Caiden Hankins will lead the defense this week. Hankins leads the team in tackles with 45 total and 2 tackles for a loss. JR Wes Murphy looks to assist on the both offensive and defensive side of the football with 42 tackles and 4 tackles for a loss. IHSAA SECTIONAL Cadets are up in 3A for the first time in school history competing in Sectional #29. Cascade is the lone 5-0 team in the sectional. Guerin Catholic and Speedway both sit at 3-2.
