Girls Soccer Game #15 Cascade @ Perry Meridian, 10/2/24

By Jeff Franklin | Oct 3, 2024 10:06 PM

For their final game of the regular season, the Lady Cadets (6-7-1) stepped outside of their normal competition and traveled to Perry Meridian High School to play the Lady Falcons (3-9-2). Perry Meridian is a member of the Mid-State conference and is scheduled to participate in the 3A Sectional 11. The Lady Cadets have had almost a week off to recover and refresh and will get another extended period of time off before they play in their first IHSAA Sectional game next week. Unlike the Lady Cadets, the Lady Falcons played their most recent game on Tuesday night when they defeated Warren Central 7-0 and were looking to create a winning momentum into the upcoming Sectional games. With the Lady Cadets dealing with some late season injuries, the Cadets looked to try and just remain competitive with the Lady Falcons for as long as they could. The Lady Cadets did play nose to nose with the Lady Falcons for most of the first half and moved the ball well. Defensively, the Lady Cadets played one of their better games as they frustrated the Lady Falcons pattern of making an extra pass to the wide runner. There were a few counter offensive breakouts for the Lady Cadets but most of the game was played in the midfield. The best offensive chance for the Cadets was when Anna Burns struck a beautiful crossing pass that fell just off of Trinity Reitzel’s foot and went over the end line. As the Lady Cadets shifted their offensive formation during the first half, they tried to open up the field of play where the team’s speed could be best utilized but the Lady Falcons defensive effort prevented most of the Lady Cadets’ offensive rhythm. The Lady Falcons dominated much of the play in the second half and created some solid shots on goal against the Lady Cadets. The best Perry Meridian shots struck the top crossbar twice and bounced safely out of bounds. Despite only having five quality shots on goal for the game, they all came in the second half. The pressure that Perry Meridian put on the Lady Cadets defense in the second half would have broken the Cadet’ defense earlier in the season. But a full year of games and improvements helps teams pull together and learn from previous mistakes. As the Cadets slowly worked the game clock down to under 5:00, the Cadets organized a couple of last second breakout runs that forced the Lady Falcons to move many of their players back on defense which broke their offensive positioning. As the game ended, the Lady Cadets were happy for the late season tie despite having their fewest offensive attacks of the season. The Lady Falcons clearly played better soccer on the night against the Cadets but the scoreboard reflected the defensive effort the Cadets had put together. The 0-0 tie to Perry Meridian moves the Lady Cadets’ regular season record to 6-7-2. Perry Meridian’s regular season record finishes at 3-9-3. The Lady Falcons and Lady Cadets look ahead to the IHSAA Sectional competition next week. The Lady Cadets will take some days off and then prepare for their IHSAA Sectional game against West Vigo High School. The Sectional matchup with the Lady Vikings will be the third time the two schools have met this season. The Cadets have won the previous two meetings but they have been very competitive games where no team dominated the pace of play. Game Summary Cascade 0 Perry Meridian 0
