Sectional 29 Semifinal Preview; #8 Cascade Cadets at Tri-West Bruins

Cadets will travel to take on the Bruins Friday Night in a match-up that sends the winner to the Sectional 29 Championship. Cadets will be on the road again for the second straight week in the playoffs. Bruins enter the contest on a 4 game winning streak. These Hendricks County schools will meet on the gridiron for the 1st time since 2011 and just the 5th time in the IHSAA playoffs. Jason Ward, 51-16 in his 6th season at Tri-West. 2024 vs Common Opponents North Montgomery (TW: 70-0 W / C: 42-22 W) Crawfordsville (TW: 42-0 W / C: 55-14 W) ALL-TIME RECORD Cascade and Tri-West will meet for the 38th time in school history. Tri-West currently leads the series 31-6. The two teams last played in 2011 with Tri-West defeating the Cadets 58-0. Tri-West is 4-0 all time in tournament history vs Cascade. Cadets last victory over Tri-West came in 2006 under Head Coach Derek Moyers in week one of the season 24-14. Cadets went on to go 10-2 and lost in the sectional championship that year to North Putnam. SETTING THE SCENE Friday Night Cascade will take their next step in the IHSAA playoff season for the second time on the road. Cascade will wear all white uniforms Friday Night. What’s at stake for both teams? Cascade and Tri-West will both continue to be in survive and advance mode in the second round. Cascade looks to continue their season dominance and Tri-West will try to get back to the sectional championship in back to back seasons. Both teams will look to assert themselves in their respective offenses and defenses. Cascade will employ their heavy run no-huddle wing-t offense and look to continue their physical defensive performance this season, while Tri-West will bring a spread, dual quarterback threat offense and a fast, physical defense. Buckle up, pack your cars, hit the road, pack the stands, and show up and show out because your Cascade Cadets are taking their 10-0 record on the road to take on Hendricks County foe, Tri-West Bruins for a sectional semifinal match-up. A LITTLE PIECE OF HISTORY Cascade completed their first undefeated regular season dropping Owen Valley 70-0. With their victory Friday Night against Crawfordsville, Cadets matched the highest win total in a single season set back in 2006 with 10 wins. CADET NOTES Cascade will need to carry their momentum from the weeks 1-10 into this contest with Tri-West. Cadets enter week 11 after a 55-14 win over Crawfordsville. Cascade uses a No-Huddle Wing-T attack on offense averaged 47.4 ppg and 348 yards through the ground and a 3-4 on defense that is playing lights out giving up 10.2 ppg and having 4 shutouts on the season. Cascade will need to slow down the quarterback duo of Tri-West. Cascade is currently riding a 10 game winning streak,adding to the record of longest win streak in school history. The Cadet defense is on pace to have one of the most historic defenses in school history. As playoff time has arrived, Cascade’s defense is giving up 147 yards a game and giving up only 89 points defensively and 102 total points (Two special teams touchdowns). Offense Statistics Points Scored: 47.4 (1st in 3A/4th in the State) Total Yards: 463.8 Yds/Game (4,638 Yards) Pass Yards: 115.2 Yds/Game (1,152 Yards) Rush Yards: 348.6 Yds/Game (3,486 Yards) First Downs: 210 Yards Per Play: 9.3 JR Brady Trebley is in his 3rd year of commanding the No-Huddle Wing-T offense. Trebley completed 6-8 for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air last week vs Crawfordsville. On the season, Brady is 63-96 for 1,114 yards and 18 TDs/2 INTs and adds 378 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground. Trebley moved into 3rd all time for passing touchdowns in a career passing Dylan Kottkamp with 38 and sits 16 touchdown passes away from being the career leader. He became the 1st 1,000 passer since 2019 for the Cadet offense last Friday. Trebley will look to move the Cadets past the semifinal round for the 1st time since 2006. FR Luke Austin and FR Adrian Parsons will serve as the back-up quarterback for the Cadets. JR Dayton Mink has been the workhorse for the Cadets offense with 1,157 yards and 14 touchdowns. JR Toby Savini has added 585 yards and 8 touchdowns. Savini surpassed the 2,000 yard mark in week 9 vs Owen Valley and Dayton Mink is just 27 yards away from being the 7th running back in school history to pass the 2,000 yard mark in their career. SR Tyler Hege has come on strong with 392 yards and 6 touchdowns. Hege rushed for 135 yards and 1 touchdown vs Crawfordsville. This backfield has combined for 3,486 yards and 47 touchdowns on the ground. They average 8.9 yards per carry. Cadets broke the 3,000 yard rushing barrier for the 3rd consecutive year and set the single season mark in rushing yards as a team with 3,486 yards and counting. Dayton Mink & Toby Savini Ranks in Career Rushing History: Rushing Yards (Career): Savini 6th (2,143) / Mink 7th (1,963) Rushing Touchdowns (Career): Savini 5th (23) / Mink 4th (25) Yards Per Rush (Career): Savini 1st (9.19) / Mink 5th (6.6) The wide receiver group played an efficient game against Crawfordsville. JR Marcus Hobson and JR JT Roshong tallied each one touchdown reception on the night, while being physical blockers in the run game. Look for this group to attack the windows in the Tri-West defense Friday Night. Tight ends continue to be a big piece in the run and pass game. JR Braxton Lewis serves as the number one tight end and continues to be a force in the blocking attack up front opening up the edge for the backs to run through. JR Royce Bright has caught 3 passes over the last two weeks. This group acts as a 6th offensive lineman and has done a dominant job all year. JR Royce Bright and SO Trent Austin will get the nod this week at tight end. This group plays a significant role each week in the offense. Cadets front five are the masterminds behind the dominant offensive attack. This group has led the way to an offense that averages 463.8 yards per game. SR Josiah Murrain, SR Bryce Hofing, SR Duncan White, SR Owen Hargis, and JR Brody Duncan will all look to be the aggressors upfront and set the pace of the game as this group will set the length of play in the playoffs. Through ten weeks, the No-Huddle Wing-T offense has 4,638 yards of offense. The offense is averaging 47.4 points per game. In week 10, Cascade finished with 519 yards of offense making it their 9th straight game with 400+ yards. Most of the damage has come on the ground attack that averages 348.6 yards per game thanks to the 6 strong that sets the tone up front, but last week the aerial attack dropped 132 yards passing. Cadets' offense will go as far as this group can take them. Defense Statistics Points Against: 10.2 (7th in 3A / 20th in the State) Total Yards Against: 147.0 Yds/Game (1,284 Yards) Pass Yards Against: 87.3 Yds/Game (873 Yards) Rush Yards Against: 59.7 Yds/Game (597 Yards) First Downs: 75 Yards Per Play Against: 3.3 The front three defensive linemen will look to slow down an offensive that averages 360 yards per game. SR Ducan White is first with 9.5 tackles for loss and has been a force on the defensive line through the season. JR Brody Duncan returns this week and comes in with 24 tackles and 8 tackles for a loss. JR Dominic Appleby has 32 tackles and 5.5 tackles for a loss on the season. SO Dillon Setty, SO Wyatt Minardo and SR Owen Hargis will serve as back-ups for this group. This group has been a big presence as they have given up 59.7 yards per game on the ground. They will need to be a big presence in the pass rush with the air attack of the Bruins. JR Braxton Lewis, JR Leland Walker, JR Baynx Stirling and FR TJ Turner will get the start at the linebacker core this week. FR TJ Turner leads the team in tackles with 65 total and 12 tackles for a loss. JR Braxton Lewis is 2nd with 60 tackles and 7.5 tackles for a loss. JR Baynx Stirling and JR Leland Walker have combined for 82 tackles. This group has played a significant role in giving up only 597 rushing yards through 10 games. JR Dayton Mink and JR Toby Savini will be the next men up for these positions. The secondary will be back to full health Friday Night with the return of SO Lucas Farmer. JR JT Roshong, SR Daemen Mason and JR Marcus Hobson will join him in the secondary. This group will have its hands full with Tri-West using two quarterbacks and 26-5 touchdowns-interceptions. SO Lucas Farmer leads this group with 2 interceptions and JR JT Roshong leads the group in tackles with 56 total tackles. The secondary is giving up 87.3 yards through the air over the course of the 10 games. SR Max Stucky handles the kicking duties for the Cadets. Stucky is currently 64-66 on the season for PATs which comes out to 97% accuracy. Last week, Stucky broke the record for most PATs set in a season with 64, a record held by Joel Fisher with 57. Stucky broke the PATs made in a game against Owen Valley hitting 10/10, a record set by Chase Schnarr a year prior. Joel Fisher also owns the kick scoring mark at 66 points set in 2006, Stucky is just 3 points away from owning all single season kicking records. Max has inserted himself into the history books for the kicking duties in just one year of playing for the Cadets. The Bruin offense shows off a two quarterback system with SR Walden and SO Sorgi. Walden took the Bruins to a regional appearance last year. Bruins have numerous weapons on the offensive side of the ball that starts with SR Thaddeus Brown as the TE/H Back who sits at 6’2 220lbs and is a big threat in the run and pass game. The Bruin defense brings back 6 starters from the sectional championship team last year and are led by their three senior inside linebackers and senior defensive linemen Jerry Dyson and Kaleb Pfeifer. Tri-West Offense averages 39 ppg and defense gives up 15 ppg.
