To wrap up their four game home stand, the Lady Cadets (1-2) hosted the Lady Bulldogs (1-2) from Monrovia. For two years prior, the Bulldogs were playing as a participant of the 2A soccer tournament while the Cadets remained in 1A. The most recent classifications (2024) switched the Cadets and Bulldogs positions and Monrovia is now a 1A school and Cascade has taken their spot in the 2A Sectional 27 bracket. Regardless of the Bulldogs' classification, they have been playing some really good soccer the past seasons and winning multiple Sectional championships. Monrovia and Cascade were members of the same conference for many years: WCC, WIC, and then the ICC. The schools have now gone different directions in the ever changing conference memberships. Monrovia has now joined the Hoosier Legends Conference with the three remaining public ICC schools, Tri-West, Shelbyville, and Indian Creek. Cascade is now a member of the Monon Conference. Last season, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Cadets rather easily 8-0 for their third victory in a row over Cascade. The Lady Cadets scored their only goal of the game when the Lady Bulldogs committed a foul early in the first half while the Cadets were playing the ball in the penalty box. Ruthie Trump took the PK and put the ball into the back of the net to give the Cadets a quick 1-0 lead that would last for less than a minute. The Lady Bulldogs scored two goals in the next two minutes and then just dominated the Lady Cadets for the rest of the game. Monrovia had a strong scoring spurt in the last 10:00 minutes of the first half that tallied four goals to bump up their lead to 6-1 at halftime. Once Cascade made some changes in the team defense and started moving players around, Monrovia began to practice crossing the ball in front of the goal and found numerous ways to apply pressure to the Cascade defense. With only a couple of offensive breakouts for the whole game, the Cascade defensive backs and midfielders got plenty of time working on their defensive skills against an excellent and athletic Monrovia team. Monrovia added four more goals in the second half to trigger the mercy rule and end the game with about 19:00 remaining on the game clock. Tonight’s loss drops the Lady Cadets record down to 1-3 (1-2 Monon Conference). The Lady Bulldogs even their season record at 2-2 after a very difficult first week of the season. Monrovia will get the Labor Day weekend to prepare for their upcoming game against Greencastle. The Lady Cadets next game will be their first one on the road as they travel down to Indian Creek for a non-conference game against the Lady Braves. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. Game Summary 1H 2H OT Final Cascade 1 0 1 Monrovia 6 4 10 Goals/Assists: 1H Ruthie Trump 32:49 (PK)
