The Lady Cadets (1-7, 1-3 Monon) returned to the road on Saturday afternoon for another match for their local rival, the Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs. The Cadets and Tiger Cubs (2-7, Monon 1-2) played some really intense games a couple of years ago that determined Sectional and Conference championships for both schools. In recent years, Greencastle has outplayed the Lady Cadets. Both schools are now founding members of the Monon Conference and this will hopefully renew the intensity of those earlier matches. Greencastle defeated Cascade 4-1 last season. Even though the Lady Cadets played as hard as they could, another opponent goal scored within the first two minutes of the game derailed any chances of the Cadets prolonging the outcome of the game. Once the Lady Cadets gave up the first goal of the game, they played some good soccer for the next 15:00 and only gave up a second goal after another offensive mistake. The Lady Cubs started to pound the ball as deep as they could into the Cadet defensive end once they had enough time to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of the Lady Cadets. The Lady Cadets were able to get a goal scored by Ruthie Trump (4) once a well paced ball was sent through the Tiger Cub defense. The first half score ended 6-1. The Lady Cubs dominated the start of the second half to add three more goals in the opening minutes to make the score 9-1 with about 20:00 remaining in the game. Greencastle scored their last goal of the game at around 17:25 remaining making the score 10-1 and triggering the high school mercy rule. The 10-1 loss Cadets drops their record down to 1-8 (1-4 Monon). The Lady Tiger Cubs keep improving in their past couple of games and have improved their record up to 3-7 after an 0-6 start. Greencastle will get a full week of rest before they play their next game on Saturday, September 20th when they travel for a Monon Conference game at Western Boone. The Lady Cadets continue their road game festival on Thursday, September 18th when they travel to Danville. The game at Danville will start at 5:30 p.m. Game Summary 1H 2H Final Cascade 1 0 1 Greencastle 6 4 10 Goals/Assists: Ruthie Trump 1H 6:28 (4)
