The Lady Cadets (1-11, 1-6 Monon) returned home last night after a grueling six game road trip. Their return home had them hosting the Lady Knights of Northview High School as well as celebrating the Senior athletes of the Boys and Girls soccer teams. The Lady Knights and the Lady Cadets are two of the teams assigned to the Sectional #27 and they have faced each other many times over the past couple of seasons. The Lady Knights came into last night’s game with a record of 3-6-2 while the Cadets are playing through one of their most challenging seasons in a while. Just three seasons ago, both teams were respectively ranked in the Top 20 of the 1A and 2A divisions. Last season, the Lady Knights defeated the Lady Cadets squad 2-1. The Lady Knights jumped out to a quick lead early in the game when they scored with only 3:00 off the game clock. But the Lady Cadets came right back and scored the game tying goal when Ruthie Trump blasted a clean shot past the Northview goalie with 35:51 remaining in the first half. The goal for Ruthie was her fifth on the season. The 1-1 tie remained for the next 15:00 until the Cadets made a defensive mistake deep in their end and allowed an easy goal for Northview. A third goal for the Lady Knights in the first half came off of a saved shot that richocetted off the goal post and into the net. The first half ended with the Lady Cadets facing a 3-1 deficit but playing well with only 10 players on the field. The second half of the game was dominated by the Lady Knights. Using the advantage of subs and having a 3-1 lead, the Lady Knights pushed the ball quickly up the field and challenged the Cadets goal as often as they could. The Knights would add four more goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half and build a comfortable 7-1 lead and trigger the running clock for the rest of the half. The Cadets did get the last glory of the game when Bella Maggard lofted a ball into the Northview defense that was handled poorly and allowing Zayda Hofing a chance to play the ball. Zayda took a quick touch toward the and struck a really good left footed shot that zipped by the Northview goalie. Zayda’s goal with 2:16 remaining was her second goal of the season. The 7-2 loss for the Cadets drops their season record down to 1-12 with one home game to go. The Lady Knights raise their record to 4-6-2 and look forward to a chance of facing the Lady Cadets again in the upcoming Sectional draw this weekend. But before the Sectionals will take place, the Knights have three more games remaining starting with North Putnam this Saturday morning. The Cadets remaining game of the season will be against the Lady Falcons of Perry Meridian.
